Job Description: 

The National Healthy Soils Policy Network is seeking a contract grantwriter to support our collective fundraising.

The Network is a group of 20 farmer-centered organizations in 18 states that advocate for state and federal policies on behalf of sustainable, organic, beginning, minority and/or family farmers. Network members meet regularly by video conference call to share models, lessons learned and strategies related to policies that incentivize agricultural practices with climate benefits, in particular, those that build healthy soils. With the support of small grants distributed through the Network, the following members are conducting a range of activities to bring farmer voices and influence to bear on healthy soils policies in nine states. The position can be based anywhere in the U.S. and communication with the Network steering committee will be conducted remotely, via phone, email and video conference. The hourly rate ranges from $55-$70 (depending on experience and location) for a maximum of approximately 200 hours from March through July 2020.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

The scope of work is subject to change and could include the following responsibilities.

Report writing and grantwriting:
● Produce three grant reports on progress made in 2019
● Produce a summary of the outcomes of the mini-grant activities to share with Network members and funders
● Develop boilerplate letter of inquiry for the Network as a whole
● Apply for grants at the direction of the Steering Committee
● Support members with grantwriting language for their own organizations

Network needs assessment and development of funding concepts:
● Interview Network members interested in participating in joint fundraising to develop concepts
● Develop letters of inquiry for 3-4 regional hubs within the Network that could seek joint funding
● Research potential funders
● Support Network members with website and blog content to raise the visibility of the Network within member organizations

Education & Experience: 

Qualifications:
● Proven track record of successful organizational needs assessment and grantwriting
● Self-directed, creative, able to work independently
● Demonstrated familiarity with sustainable agriculture concepts and some relationships with agriculture and/or climate funders
