We are looking for experienced farmers and field crew to join our team for the 2020 season. Two Bear Farm is a 100 acre farm with 13 acres in intensive organic vegetable production. We have a CSA with 250 members, sell at 3 farmers markets each week, and some wholesale. We are a small team of folks, and so everyone does a lot of variety of tasks, including greenhouse production, high tunnel production, planting, irrigation, weeding, harvest, post-harvest handling, packing CSA boxes, and attending farmer's market. We are a popular and successful farm in our community, and while the season is busy, the work is rewarding.
Ideally, we are looking for people who have experience working on a vegetable farm, who are familiar with farm systems, the pace and efficiency needed to be successful, and attention to detail. That said, we are willing to train from scratch if you are a strong candidate.
Our season runs from early April until late October, and our CSA and market season is 20 weeks (mid-May to the end of September)
Early season tasks include greenhouse propagation of starts, prepping and planting high tunnels, prepping raised beds using tractors and implements, and planting crops in the 13- acre field (by hand, with paper pot transplanter, jang seeder, or water-wheel transplanter). This requires the ability to learn and work quickly in all sorts of weather conditions, while still being detail oriented.
During the main season, we harvest every morning, 5 days a week, from about 7am to noon. Then we take lunch, and spend the afternoons washing and packing produce in our custom wash/pack house, or doing other field work (irrigation, succession plantings, weeding, etc.). We pack CSA shares 5 days a week, and we do our weekly markets on Tuesday evening, Thursday evening, and Saturday morning. Not everyone will work every market each week, but good customer service and a positive attitude is important.
Preferably some experience working on organic farms. Tractor operation experience is helpful. Ability to drive vehicles with manual transmission also really helpful. Good attitude, no drama, passionate about local/organic food, and strong work ethic will make for a successful and enjoyable experience.
