Our Field crew is responsible for all daily farm operations. Join our small staff for a chance to teach new farmers and our Rooted youth what it is like to live the dream and to grow food for your community. Our Field Crew uses tractors and equipment, manages propagation and high tunnels, weeds, irrigates, harvests, does post-harvest handling, CSA distribution and farmer’s market sales. The majority of work requires the physical capability to contribute daily in an agricultural setting; creating an incredibly rewarding, yet demanding work environment and life experience. We work hard, have fun and strive for some balance along the way. Bunk style housing on-site is available. This can be a year-round opportunity for the right person.
Field Crew Essential Functions:
>> Harvesting (All harvesting is done by hand)
>> Post-Harvest/Wash Station work (washing, bunching, quality control, packing)
>> Planting (hand transplanting, planting with push seeders, hand seeding)
>> Irrigation set-up (drip tape, overhead sprinklers)
>> High Tunnel Crop Production & Trellising
>> Tillage, Cultivation, Weeding & Thinning (tractors, wheel hoes, stirrup hoes, hand weeding)
>> Pest and Disease Control
>> Seed Saving, Cover Cropping, Soil Management
>> Farmers Markets and CSA distribution
We are looking for a positive, reliable, responsible, and hardworking individual who has a strong desire to work on an organic farm and a true love of vegetables.
Previous farm experience is required. A degree from an Agricultural accredited college preferred.
