The River Project (https://www.theriverproject.org/) is looking for a self-motivated, detail oriented individual with landscaping/gardening experience to be part of our watershed stewardship team. This is a temporary, part time position, paid bi-weekly via check or direct deposit. Hours are typically 8am-4pm, Tuesday through Friday, with potential for more hours as you become familiar with our team and project.
You will be responsible for helping with all aspects of the Water LA (https://www.waterla.org/strategies) home installation projects in the city of Altadena. These tasks include, but are not limited to:
+Drystack, unmortared rock work
+Building permeable walkways & patios consisting of urbanite and decomposed granite
+Concrete demolition using jackhammers and sledgehammers
+Excavating deep parkway basins using picks and shovels
+Turf removal, either manually or using a sod cutter
+Soil grading to create berms and swales to best redirect and capture rainwater
+Planting native gardens
+Building and planting raised bed edible gardens with gopher protection
+Sheet mulching large areas
+Make sure worksite remains clean and unobstructed for homeowner at the end of the workday
+Must be at least 21 years of age
+Must be able to perform physically strenuous labor for long periods of time
+Must be able to work in variable outdoor conditions
+Must be punctual and have reliable transportation
+Must be flexible to deal with unforeseen circumstances
+Must be personable, as we regularly interface with diverse communities
+Must be passionate and knowledgeable about issues related to watershed conservation and green infrastructure
Extras: Be passionate and knowledgeable about issues related to watershed conservation and green infrastructure. Experience with masonry work, sawing, drilling, concrete removal and basic power tool maintenance is a huge plus.
