Come join us for a photo tour and discussion of the variety of solar applications in use on the Kern Family Farm homestead in the Central California foothills. At an elevation of 3,500 feet on the bluffs of the San Joaquin River, they have always been off-grid. They will share what they have learned about micro-solar power and other innovative ways to capture solar energy. The projects benefit the small farm homestead by pumping water, helping manage livestock, providing passive solar applications, and more. This workshop will interest young and old new farmers and homesteaders who want to be a part of the returning back-to-the-land movement. This is the 30th anniversary of the death of author Ken Kern, one of the Back-to-the-Land leaders of the 1960s and 70s. His son Hansel would also like to share a few stories of his father’s life in honor of Ken’s contribution to the movement.
