Many new GMO technologies are sneaking into food and farms without any regulation or disclosure. Many of these, from CRISPR to synthetic biology to gene drives, are threatening organic integrity. While some of these technologies appear to have promise for addressing some of the worst problems in agriculture, they are very likely to be used irresponsibly, they cannot be detected in tests, and they have no track record of unanticipated effects in the environment. In this session we will hear what some of these things are, as well as why we should be concerned. A certifier will explain how organic integrity can be maintained in a world full of GMOs. There will also be an update on what the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) is doing to keep these techniques out of organic.
