Conserving and Distributing Delicious, Adapted Fruit Trees

As supermarket fruit disappoints many people who want more flavor, efforts are underway to evaluate, conserve, distribute, and promote more regionally adapted, flavorful, and old-fashioned fruit varieties. This session with two renowned fruit experts will cover little-known varieties of stone fruit and other gems, the advantages and peculiarities of growing them, and projects to identify and conserve them. Todd Kennedy is curator of orchards at the famed Filoli Gardens in San Mateo County and proprietor of Arboreum fruit tree nursery. Gary Nabhan is the author of more than 20 books on regional food and related topics. He is currently collecting and distributing Spanish Mission-era fruits of Baja and Alta California and southern Arizona.
