Discussion Group - White Folks in Food: Unpacking Your Privilege

How can folks with white-skin privilege contribute to food justice, participating in multi-racial and multicultural food spaces? How do we inadvertently maintain a system of inequality? What possibilities exist to shake the system towards greater justice? This discussion addresses self-identified white folks looking to better recognize and resist the impact of race privilege in their food justice work. We will address stereotypes and characteristics of racial privilege, how it shows up in individuals and organizations, and how we each resist, conform, imitate, subvert, or distance ourselves from these stereotypes. Through collective knowledge brought to the workshop, we hope to continue unpacking our relationships with white supremacy. Zoe Parsigian and Sarah Arndt will facilitate this discussion.
