Making Hay in Agritourism

Consumer interest in ag and food is at an all-time high, and agritourism is helping many farms remain profitable, while enthralling urban visitors. After Barbara and Bill Spencer started farming in 1990, visitors came to see how the produce they bought at the farmers market was being grown. The Spencers held a tomato tasting featuring varieties grown on on the farm and it has since grown into a small festival. Windrose Farm now hosts dinners, tastings and workshops. In 2014 Lynette Sonne launched FARMstead ED as a way to promote locally grown and locally made products through pop-up events and getting people out to the farms, ranches, and production facilities where their food is grown and made.
