The Farmer Equity Act was passed by the California Legislature in 2017. It acknowledged that farmers of color historically have not had equitable access to land, resources, and programs. The Farm Equity Advisor was hired at the Department of Food and Ag to ensure that all farmers, including farmers of color, urban farmers, veteran farmers, and women farmers, have equitable access to resources and information, and representation in policies that affect their businesses. On January 1, 2020, an assessment report will be submitted to the Governor and Legislature, outlining recommendations, goals and outcomes for this program. At this workshop, the Farm Equity Advisor will present the findings of the report, followed by a panel discussion about achieving equity for all farmers and ranchers.
