In this session, we will hear from leading farmers and voices in organic grain. Bob Quinn has been farming his family's conventional grain and cattle farm since 1978 and by 1991 went organic. Liz Carlisle is an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Studies Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where her work focuses on fostering a more just and sustainable food system. She is the co-author, with Bob, of Grain by Grain: A Quest to Revive Ancient Wheat, Rural Jobs, and Healthy Food. David Vetter and his family have been at the forefront of the organic grain movement, becoming certified organic in 1978, creating an organic grain cleaning facility in 1980, and adding the manufacturing of organic grain-based products and ingredients in 1987. A screening of "Dreaming of a Vetter World," a deeply realistic and beautiful documentary following the Vetter family and farm, will follow this workshop.

Bob Quinn is passionate about organic farming and the need to provide a sustainable, nutritional food source for the United States. A deep-rooted belief that rural communities should be valued and nurtured has always been a driving force of this passion. Bob has been farming organic Kamut ancient grain since 1983. He is the founder of Kamut International which allows him to promote organic agriculture and the KAMUT® brand ancient wheat. He is the author of "Grain by Grain: A Quest to Revive Ancient Wheat, Rural Jobs, and Healthy Food."
