Organic producers need multiple diverse varieties of seeds in order to produce high quality crops in different regions and cropping systems. In order to access those seeds, they also need a diversity of efforts to create and share improved varieties, and a wealth of genetic resources that breeders can use to improve varieties. Seed Matters and the Organic Seed Alliance are working together to decentralize the seed systems which have become dominated by corporations without the public interest in mind. Hear about participatory breeding projects, preserving classical plant-breeding programs, training new plant breeders, and other programs to raise awareness about the importance of seed to vibrant farming systems.
