Drought is one of the most feared phenomena in agriculture. Unfortunately over the past 4,000 years, most of our agricultural management practices have made us more susceptible to drought, often destroying civilizations. Today people are fearful that climate change may increase our future risk of drought. The speakers will discuss soil management that increases rainfall infiltration and improves soil water-holding capacity. They will highlight methods to improve root depth and plant water-use efficiency. Dale Strickler is a Kansas rancher who raises cover crop seed and has written The Drought-Resilient Farm. Alexis Robertson raises livestock with her family on their ranch near Mt. Shasta.
