Rebuilding River Ecosystems and Farmscapes

Farmers, scientists, water districts, and conservationists are all working together in the Central Valley to dramatically enhance river ecosystems and improve water security for California’s farms and cities. The same floodplain fields that grow food for people in the summer are also providing food and habitat for ducks, geese and fish in the winter, as well as flood protection and aquifer recharge. These new multi-benefit systems have evolved through integrating a working knowledge of natural processes into farm and water management. Such innovations are a model for farmscape resource resilience in the era of climate change.
