Building a National Grassroots Campaign for Young and Beginning Farmers

A rising tide of young men and women are resolving to put their shoulder to the wheel for the organic farming movement. Local, regional, national, and global energy is surging as rural areas once again see earnest young people roll “Back to the Land.” This time around they are working with mature resource networks, both private and public, waiting to serve them as they grow. New York organic farmer Sophie Ackoff of the National Young Farmers Coalition relates how their grassroots campaign has empowered participants to forge real change. Representing the western states, a member of the Ecological Farmers and Ranchers Alliance (EFRA) will discuss EFRA’s work and scope.
