Farm camps that connect children and families to nature have been successful in northern California. Connolly Ranch in Napa County serves over 7,000 children each year, with camps in all seasons. Summer options range from half-day Junior Farmers for ages 3 to 5, to full-day Ranch Stewards for ages 8 to 13. They host school field trips, afternoon and weekend activities, and special events. Slide Ranch operates an educational permaculture farm overlooking the Pacific in Marin County. They offer programs for schools, community groups, teachers, families, and summer day camps for children. Caring for animals and gardens, cooking, and exploring wilderness and the coast, visitors learn to understand the connection between their own health, a healthy food system and a healthy environment.
